This Sunday

Dear St. Luke Community,

This Sunday is World Communion Sunday and is theologically my favorite service of the year. I know many of you who are coming to the evening fundraiser will think to yourselves, “I don’t want to have to go to the church twice in one day.” I promise it will be completely worth it and I encourage you all to come to both.

We will have a special musical blend of traditional choir and acoustic band. The communion table will be front and center and specially adorned. We’ll stand around the sanctuary in a circle for communion, sing a blessing to one another, and be reminded of what it means to participate in ritual and sacrament.

Let’s come together in worship, reminded once again that we are one world, one people belonging to God, one body of Christ for those who follow Him, and of one hope. I know we don’t all agree on everything but I’m pretty sure we agree on one vision of peace. The Kingdom is both here and coming and we’re called to do what we can, where we can, in any way we can, to help bring it along fully into realization.

See you Sunday, twice!
Nicole

Upcoming Events & Announcements

World Communion Sunday Worship ~ This SundayOctober 6th
Please join us for this most special blended service of acoustic and choral music. World Communion Sunday became popular during the Second World War when the country and world was in need of spiritual commitment. Through the shared bread of Christ, we are joined together as one body, unified over and above the divisive rhetoric that is pervading our nation and world. As civility and decency has been eroded from the fabric, we have a responsibility to model what it means to be followers of Christ; embracing those who are in need, standing up for what is just and right, and healing what is broken.

St Luke’s Annual Fundraiser Dinner & Auction ~ This Sunday EveningOctober 6th, 6:00 PM
This year’s event will be St. Luke’s version of “Gala” – black and white without the tuxedo.  Please join us for wonderful food and fellowship, great music and a silent auction. We’ll celebrate with gourmet food prepared by Janet Abrahamson and Michael Baranowski.

Men Helping to End Gun Violence ~ October 20th after worship, Bayview Room
Men Against Gun Violence was formed after the Parkland school shooting in early 2018. Eighty to ninety percent of gun violence in the U.S. is committed by men. Our mission is to build a non-partisan, non-profit group of men helping to reduce gun violence by understanding and eliminating environmental factors leading certain men to harm others and themselves.

The group was founded in Marin by L.B. Upshaw, a retired consultant and U.C. Berkeley faculty member, and former Chair of the Board of Trustees at the San Francisco Theological Seminary.

Join us after worship as L.B. speaks on “Prevent & Protect”, a program that seeks to prevent gun violence in homes, workplaces, faith communities, and schools.
