Dear Friends and Family Members of St. Luke:

Make a joyful noise to the Lord!  Again, I say make a joyful noise!  I know, as you read this there might be others around but that is okay, go ahead and make that joyful noise.  Maybe you want to sing a song or clap your hands or stomp your feet.  Maybe you just want to let out a hoot or a holler.  Whatever it is, I invite you to make that joyful noise with all your strength and spirit!

This Sunday we will celebrate “Fat Sunday” by making a lot of joyful noise together.  We will have special guests helping us lead music and there might even be acrobatics and juggling.  This is a time of celebration and joy so bring your friends and family.

In contrast, our Ash Wednesday Service will be on March 2, 2022, at 6:30 pm.  This will be a time of meditation and prayer as we begin our Lenten journey with Jesus towards the cross.  I look forward to seeing many of you either at our lively Sunday morning worship, our contemplative Ash Wednesday service, or better yet BOTH!

Peace be with you,
Andrew P. Quick

Dear friends and family of St. Luke Presbyterian Church:

My apologies for the technical difficulties we encountered last Sunday.  We understand those of you who joined us online had no audio.  And, the recording we took also suffered the same difficulty.  So needless to say there are no digital sound recordings.  I guess I should have thought twice before I wrote the joke in last week’s letter, “Please leave your ear plugs at home."  A big thank you to Erich and Beth who came to the church on Tuesday to troubleshoot the issues.  We pray it will work better this Sunday as we continue to examine Jesus' “Sermon on the Plain'' found in Luke 6.

Luke 6:27-36 includes many phrases that you might recognize including:  “Treat others how you want to be treated,” “Love your enemies,” and, “Turn the other cheek.” How do these well known and often repeated sayings impact us today?  And how might we hear them in a new context?  I look forward to seeing you in-person or online as we encounter these difficult questions and venture further into the unknown deep.

Finally, as I continue to meet folks while trying to remember names, I want you all to have my contact information so you can reach out to me if/when you would like.  You can reach me via email at: or   If you prefer phone calls or text messaging, my cell phone number is 831.207.7356.  My in-person office hours are still in flux as my family manages the needs of Maisy, and my tentative days off are Friday and Saturday (and I will be attempting to actually take those days off).  With that said, when things arise, please reach out.  I look forward to hearing your stories and getting a chance to connect with you all.

Peace be with you,
Andrew P. Quick

Dear friends and family of St. Luke Presbyterian Church:

Week two is off and running.  I had the opportunity to visit the kitchen at First Presbyterian Church San Rafael to witness the work that is being done in partnership with The Street Chaplaincy. I heard about the Prayer Shawl Ministry at St. Luke. And, this Saturday I look forward to witnessing generosity in action at the Welcoming Home event.  Through this all I had the pleasure of meeting with various staff and session members to hear more about the life and history of St. Luke Presbyterain Church. What a joy!

As I continue to meet folks while trying to remember names, I wanted to give you all my contact information so you can reach out to me if/when you would like.

Additionally, I look forward to seeing you on Sunday as we continue our study of the gospel of Luke.  The passage this week, Luke 6:17-26, is a tough one.  As one theologian said, “Be prepared to put on your hard hat if you are preaching from this text.”   The Holy Spirit has something in store for us this week as we look at the Blessings and Woes Jesus offers his followers.  See you Sunday and be sure to wear your safety vest and hard hat. But, please leave your ear plugs at home.

Peace be with you,
Andrew P. Quick
